From Repairs to Race Ready – We’re On Course for The Ocean Race Europe

Join Us this Weekend for the Start of The Ocean Race Europe

Canada Ocean Racing – Be Water Positive is officially making Canada’s debut in The Ocean Race Europe, and we set sail this Sunday, 10 August from Kiel, Germany. 🇨🇦🌍

It’s a proud milestone for Canadian offshore sailing – and a huge step on our journey to the 2028 Vendée Globe, the world’s toughest solo round-the-world race.

“We have a very big goal ahead of us in 2028, and every race between now and then is part of that journey,” says team president and skipper Scott Shawyer. “We’re proud to be flying the flag for Canada in this race, and promoting the Be Water Positive message, whilst building experience in one of the world’s most competitive fleets.”

From Repairs to Race-Ready

After retiring from the Rolex Fastnet Race due to a hydraulic issue, Emira IV was quickly repaired in Cherbourg, France. With the boat back at full strength, the team is now prepped and ready to race at the highest level.

About The Ocean Race Europe

This is only the second edition of The Ocean Race Europe, but it’s already one of the most competitive sprint circuits on the calendar. From the chilly Baltic to the warm Adriatic, this race will test speed, skill, and endurance across changing conditions and coastlines.

The 2025 route covers approximately 4,500 nautical miles over five legs across Europe:

Leg 1 – Starts 10 August: Kiel 🇩🇪 to Portsmouth 🇬🇧

Leg 2 – Portsmouth to Cartagena 🇪🇸, with a fly-by in Matosinhos/Porto 🇵🇹

Leg 3 – Cartagena to Nice 🇫🇷

Leg 4 – Nice to Genoa 🇮🇹

Leg 5 – Genoa to Boka Bay 🇲🇪, finishing with a coastal race finale on 20 September and prize giving on 21 September

Rotating Skipper Model + Elite Crew

One of the exciting features of this campaign is our rotating skipper model—a chance to test talent and grow deep knowledge of Emira IV across our program.

Joining Scott on board are internationally renowned offshore sailors:

  • Pip Hare 🇬🇧
  • Chris Pratt 🇫🇷
  • Sébastien Marsset 🇫🇷
  • Brian Thompson 🇬🇧

This multi-national mix brings world-class experience to the Canadian campaign as we continue building toward the Vendée Globe.

We’re also joined by On-Board Reporters, Georgia Schofield and Richard Mardens.
